Question:
As you watch this video, what are some indications of a chemical reaction? What happens to the mass of the matter before and after the reaction? What do the color changes mean during a chemical reaction?

Materials:
Phenomena:
Task: Write down a combination of 4 observations and questions for each part.
Part 1: Reacting Baking Soda & Calcium Chloride Separately.
Part 2: Mixing the two reactions.
Part 3: Reacting Both Powders with the Indicator Solution
Part 4: Student Led Experiment
- 3 Bags
- Calcium Chloride (CaCl2)
- Baking Soda
- Indicator Solution
Phenomena:
Task: Write down a combination of 4 observations and questions for each part.
Part 1: Reacting Baking Soda & Calcium Chloride Separately.
- In the bag, baking soda is on one side and calcium chloride on the other, each are reacting with the indicator solution.
Part 2: Mixing the two reactions.
- In the bag, mix the reacted materials together and make some observations and questions.
Part 3: Reacting Both Powders with the Indicator Solution
- In the bag, place both powders in the corner of the bag and the indicator solution in the other, seal it and react it.
- Make some observations and questions.
Part 4: Student Led Experiment
- Students are to ask a question they are interested in investigating.
- Students are to then write a set of procedures.
- After the students run their experiments, they are to write down their results, or their observations from the experiment.
- After the students write down their results, they are to reflect on what they learned from their experiments and / or what questions they've generated as a result of the experiment.
